Glorify God - Nurture Students - Serve Community

We want every student at Mountain View to walk out our doors knowing who they are and Whose they are, as redeemed, loved children of God. Secure in that knowledge, they have a firm foundation from which to grow their interests, develop their abilities, and chase their dreams.

It is our honor and privilege to walk alongside your children throughout this process, guiding them through the challenges and successes on the way.

philosophy

It is our goal to help all children develop an understanding and love for their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while learning the skills they need to succeed both now and in the future. Our curriculum is consistent with high-quality, achievable yet challenging early-learning standards. Children are encouraged to explore while acquiring key concepts in early reading, language, math, writing, gross-motor, fine-motor, and social skills.

According to the Nevada Pre-Kindergarten Standards (2010), "Play is how children find out about their world. All types of play - manipulative play, play with games, rough-and-tumble play, and socio-dramatic play - provide children with opportunities to try things out, see what happens, and learn."

Thus, at Mountain View Lutheran Preschool, we encourage their learning through movement, interaction, and active and engaging play.

We value all aspects of student development. From spiritual and academic, to the artistic and athletic, our students have opportunities to grow, develop, and pursue their interests.

We offer a variety of competitive sports teams as a member of the Red Rock Athletic Conference.

Art is taught in all grades.

Curricular and extra-curricular music options include music class for all grades as well as a band, choir, and bell choir.

In addition to serving one another and building school-wide friendships, our students are excited to serve those beyond their own campus. We hear the Gospel message every day in the classroom and every week at chapel. Then, from family connections to community events to international missions, our students don’t just see what it means to share the love of Jesus,
they do it.

There is a lot of buzz about technology in schools, and it is certainly a great tool. But we believe technology to be just that - a great tool. Not the great tool. Thus, we ensure that our fifth graders are well-equipped to enter a middle school setting with one-to-one technology, keeping an iPad cart in the room for age-appropriate activities. And we teach skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations to all elementary grades.

Even more importantly, we foster face-to-face interactions, allot weekly library time, and encourage social-emotional development in every single classroom, at every age level.

There are many wonderful ways to learn, grow, and develop. At Mountain View Lutheran School, we aim to encompass a wide variety of those methods and nurture a child's natural enjoyment of exploration and activity.

One of our school parents said her favorite thing about Mountain View Lutheran was walking the halls with her son after he had attended preschool, and hearing countless elementary students greet him by name.

Our students regularly interact with other grades, assisting as "homework buddies," coming together for daily prayer and pledges, reading to younger students, and assisting with service projects.

Classroom activities encourage an educational community that crosses the halls and builds seemingly unlikely friendships. By the time these students enter fifth grade, they are proud to watch over the little kids and take them under their wing. A foundation for and excitement about service is nurtured in such a natural way, that kids discover it is something they want to do.

You may have a church family. You may be part of ours. Or perhaps you don't currently have one, or never have. No matter your situation, the congregation at Mountain View Lutheran Church is OUR family. The church loves and supports this ministry materially, through their time, and in regular prayer. You will see their faces at events, at our annual fundraising gala, and even as classroom volunteers.

Pastor Derek and Pastor Brad are here to serve the needs of the parents and kids at the school, and are available for family needs, pastoral support, answering your questions, and a friendly smile as either of them pop in and out of classrooms.

Don't hesitate to lean on this family of believers. We are all here for one another - connecting, caring, and sharing through Christ.

AT MOUNTAIN VIEW, we believe that God forms us into His people so that we can be sent on His mission to love and make disciples of others. Everything we do is made possible by the good work that God starts in us!
